"Old Man Winter" can shove it! He's making an old man out of me. I am sitting here typing this while the wind howls outside in a wicked preemptive strike of sorts. Yes, snow is once again in the forecast for the Eastern Sierra. We have plenty of snow, plenty of water, enough is enough already!
I am over it...
(Image: That's weird, the morning started out warm and sunny)
Good thing the fishing has been extra special. And it's not like we haven't had some beautiful sunny days lately - we have.
But the thought of shoveling more snow off the cars, shoveling the drive way, putting on the snow boots that are deep in the closet.
Oh well, time to put the ski boots on again and just grin and bare it, eh?
(Image: Good clients were in town all last week for 5 days of fishing & fun. Wayne Gray here slayed it)
Not much to report fishing wise since my last post. The East Walker is still fishing really well and so is Hot Creek. Both streams we have had days of 20-30+ fish per person. Lots of hook-ups, and some very good dry fly fishing produce some memorable days on these two streams. Bigger fish have been on the prowl on the EW and some even look up to eat, now and again!
Other options right now include the Gorge and maybe some re-con on the Upper Owens. Lower Owens still is holding at 400 cfs. Spots are fishable, but there are better options right now.
(Image: Shawn you slayed it, too. This fish was all you... and made up for all the ones we lost)
(Image: Lots of these lately...
I'm anxiously awaiting the ice-out of a few select backcountry lakes... one just north of Mammoth and the other just north of Bridgeport. These ponds harbor some huge trout. Just a little effort needed to get there and some patience, luck, and cooperation from the hawgs down under. Maybe I will let you know, then again, maybe not...
(Image: RETREAT... RETREAT... just kidding, we actually had a great day of fishing)
Stay tuned for more on Reel Mammoth Adventures. We should have a return back to warmer "spring" weather by the weekend. Caddis on the E Walker should be getting more active soon and with that comes some of the best fishing of the year...
