The Fall season or "Second Summer" 2011 has been awesome and beautiful at the same time.
Despite one wicked early storm that dropped over 18" on Mammoth Mountain in early October, it has been smooth sailing, sunny days and excellent fishing conditions most of the time.
The fall season offers many wonderful fishing experiences all over the Sate of California. Recently, Caltrout spotlighted these opportunities in their newsletter...
Check out what fellow guides Ralph & Lisa Cutter, Craig Nielson and yours truly had to say about fall season opportunities on our home waters, read all about it here

The big, wet, winter of of 2010/11 left us plenty of the cold clean stuff (water)... it's insane how long of a season we have had on freestone rivers like the MF San Joaquin!
The river is still fishable and it's nearly November!! I have seen years where this stream is toast by mid August. Unfortunately, the road will close to the Devil's Postpile Oct 31st, whether or not you still wanna fish it. Get on it now!!!!
Many days this week we simply flipped a coin between fishing Hot Creek, Upper Owens, East Walker, San Joaquin, or Crowley Lake... or a myriad of "other" waters to choose from.
(Image: The Upper Owens, flanked by the snow crested Glass Mountains to the east,is a great fall season destination. Water conditions are PERFECT right now for a banner fall season fly fishing experience)
(Image: Ellen proudly and deservedly holding the fall season bounty. Gotta love the yellow in the trees and the gold in the rivers during the fall)
(Image: I know, I know, this is really fun!! Though we didn't net the 2 biggest ones, Scott Clark stuck many really nice brown trout in the EW w/ me and his buddies last week. With plenty of other "smaller" sized trouts, it was a great day! We got a few on dry flies, too.
(Image: Witness a brother of a client getting "ruined" on fly fishing. Brian Chandler was a quick study and learned how to catch em on dry flies and nymphs by the end of the day. Beginner no longer...
Winter Availability and Fishing:
I am nearly completely booked up for the rest of the October. I have a few mid-week dates still open so call or email if you are trying to get one last trip in this month.
Because...
It's that time of the year once again!! I'm finding it harder and harder to keep my focus on the local trouts and start day dreaming of the much bigger and stronger STEELHEAD that haunt Northern California waters.
I will once again be offering drift boat trips on the Trinity River. I live in Weaverville CA most of the time between November - January chasing the chrome ghosts and sharing in "dreams coming true" for my wonderful clients.
My available dates are going fast. Most of my peeps keep standing reservations a year in advance so get a hold of me ASAP if you want to play along...
Trinity Steelhead Availability:
November: 5, 6, 7, 16 or 17...
December: 16, 17, 18 only...
January: 4-18 still available. This is a great month, less crowds, more wild fish!
Thanks for tuning in...
